The highly anticipated sequel, Thanksgiving 2, faces a delay, leaving fans eager for the return of John Carver. The first film's success in 2023 quickly sparked plans for a follow-up, aiming for a 2025 release tied to the titular holiday. But, production hasn't started yet.
The hold-up stems from scheduling conflicts. Addison Rae has touring commitments, and Milo Manheim is involved in the live-action remake of Tangled.
Despite these hurdles, director Eli Roth remains optimistic. He assures that the project is a priority, stating, "Everybody wants to do it. I’m gonna have it locked and loaded, and we’ll find a time when we’re all available." He envisions a focused period of filming, promising to deliver a memorable experience.
Roth will direct the sequel, co-writing the script with Jeff Rendell. Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman are expected to reprise their roles alongside Rae and Manheim.
A key point of interest is Roth's approach to the sequel: He's aiming to elevate the experience without increasing the budget. He has teased that the kills will be the best.
The original Thanksgiving movie unfolds in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where a Black Friday riot leads to tragedy, and a mysterious killer, inspired by the holiday, begins a reign of terror. The seemingly random acts of revenge soon reveal a deeper, more sinister plot.
While fans await Thanksgiving 2, Roth is engaged with his Horror Section Studios projects, including Ice Cream Man and Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!. He's also developing a Hostel TV series for Peacock.
