Chiwetel Ejiofor Reunites with Mike Flanagan for a New Chapter of ‘The Exorcist’
It’s always exciting when talented artists collaborate again, and that’s precisely what’s happening with Chiwetel Ejiofor and director Mike Flanagan. After their recent partnership in the film The Life of Chuck, Ejiofor is set to join Flanagan once more for the upcoming installment of The Exorcist. This new project will also feature well-known actors Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, and Diane Lane, who have already been announced as part of the cast.
This latest entry in the iconic franchise, produced by Blumhouse Productions, Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment, and Universal Pictures, is slated to hit theaters on March 12, 2027. Filming is about to commence in the bustling city of New York, which promises to add a unique backdrop to this chilling narrative.
What sets this movie apart is that it presents an entirely original storyline rather than serving as a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. Flanagan, known for his immersive storytelling, is not only directing this film but is also producing it through his company, Red Room Pictures. Alexandra Magistro will join him as an executive producer, contributing her expertise to the production. David Robinson is on board as a producer for Morgan Creek Entertainment, while Jason Blum and Ryan Turek are involved as producer and executive producer, respectively, under the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner.
Chiwetel Ejiofor is no stranger to acclaim; he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and won a BAFTA for his compelling role in 12 Years a Slave. His impressive filmography includes notable performances in Doctor Strange, The Martian, Children of Men, American Gangster, Inside Man, and the beloved romantic comedy Love Actually. Recently, he has been busy with projects such as The Old Guard 2 for Netflix, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and Marvel and Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance. Upcoming releases include Paramount’s adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone and A24’s The Backrooms.
Ejiofor also ventured into directing with his debut film The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, which premiered on Netflix, showcasing his versatility as a creator. His second directorial effort, Rob Peace, in which he wrote, directed, and starred, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and earned a nomination for a NAACP Image Award. With a career that spans both stage and screen, Ejiofor has garnered prestigious accolades including an Olivier Award, nominations for Emmy and Golden Globe awards, and recognition as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his contributions to drama.
Currently, Ejiofor is represented by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin, Premier PR, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman, ensuring that his future projects continue to make waves in the industry.
