Get ready, music lovers! The BRIT Awards are shaking things up, and it's a big deal. For the first time ever, the iconic awards ceremony is heading to Manchester in 2026! And who's taking the stage as host? None other than the hilarious Jack Whitehall, returning for a record-breaking sixth time.
Jack, who first took on hosting duties back in 2018, is set to lead the show at Manchester's brand-new Co-op Live arena on February 28th. This marks a significant shift, as the BRITs have traditionally been held in London, most recently at The O2 Arena since 2011. Before that, venues like Earls Court and the Royal Albert Hall hosted the prestigious event.
The announcement was made via a fun video showcasing Whitehall 'walking' through various Manchester landmarks. From the Industrial Revolution to the Curry Mile, Coronation Street, and the classic Barm cake, the clip pays homage to the city's rich heritage.
Whitehall himself is clearly excited, stating, “I am so excited to be coming back for this very special BRIT Awards in Manchester, a place that is so important to me. The city I started my comedy career in, it feels like a real full circle moment returning to host this historic night at the Co-op Live, a venue that is only a stone’s throw away from the comedy club I did my first 10 minute set in all those years ago. Hopefully I get a few more laughs than I did that night. I cannot wait.”
This move is part of a broader strategy to refresh the BRITs. The awards show has faced criticism in the past for feeling a bit stale, with some feeling there were too many influencers and reality stars.
But here's where it gets interesting... Manchester will be the permanent home for the BRITs in 2026 and 2027, hosted at the Co-Op Live. This partnership marks a new era for the awards.
Whitehall's recent work includes a role in Prime Video's 'Malice' and appearances in popular TV shows like 'Bad Education' and 'Fresh Meat.' He also became a father in September 2023.
